Our enterprise has many years experience in modernizing radars for
various purposes, like military, weather, air-traffic control, civil
aviation radars which were manufactured earlier.
Obsolete vacuum travelling wave tubes (TWTs)
which are not manufactured are replaced by microwave modules (of MSHB, ELU-type)
allowing to avoid many generally known disadvantages of TWTs:
| TWT |
MSHB, ELU modules |
- Limited service life – up to 500…1500 hr;
- High noise level which increases during operation;
- Necessity of adjustments when mounting and during operation;
- Deterioration of performance when exposed to magnetic fields (also in case of a close arrangement of some TWTs);
- High energy consumption;
- High price
|
- Guaranteed service life min. 10000 hr;
- Substantially lower and stable noise level;
- No need of adjustment;
- Resistance to exposure to magnetic fields;
- Modules are connected to one stabilized power supply + 7(11,5 )…28V, 40…120 mA
reducing power consumption by several fold;
- Low cost

Such modernization may be carried out both by specialists of our
enterprise and by operating personnel directly in radar position,
practically without removing radars from operation. There is no need of
making changes in radars because all mounting dimensions of microwave
modules correspond to those of replaced units and TWTs.
Owing to modernization, radar receiver sensitivity increases by 2…7 dB
(depending on radar type and condition and replaced TWT) and in some
cases even more resulting in detection and tracking range increase of
air and water targets, particularly those with small specular
cross-section.
Such modernization of the radars of air-defense missile systems
substantially increases detection and tracking range in automatic mode,
improves picture sharpness on the radar scope, gives more accurate
position of observed objects, finally raising fighting efficiency of
the system as a whole.
Besides TWT replacement by solid-state microwave modules, we modernize other
units of radar receiving sections made of obsolete components ( glass
and metal-ceramic tubes, obsolete diodes of waveguide mixers and others
) which are critical from the point of view of performance, service
life and reliability.
The results of such modernization of various radars confirm its technical
and economic expediency. It is the cheapest way of prolonging service
life with simultaneous substantial improvement of main tactical and
technical characteristics of the radar as a whole.
Taking into account many years experience, our specialists are ready to
consider proposals for modernization of any existing radars as well as
for development and deliveries of microwave modules for new generation
radars being developed, including those with phased array and active
phased array.
